Pics From Acorn 5210MM & SG560
« on: February 04, 2012, 09:42:11 PM »
I pulled the cards today and moved the cameras around on the land. I placed the W220 where the Acorn was, moved the Acorn to the feeder barrel mineral hole and reloaded the Stealth Xt. I also visited the SG560 and reloaded it too. I noticed today that the hog was back again so the MMS cam is on location now. I baited all areas with soybean and corn mix. I'm heavy on the soybeans and light on corn because the does are in gestation now and really noticeable. This will help the bucks as well.

The ones off the SD card that were the 12mp and not MMS look pretty good I have to agree. Too bad I have to wait to pull the card to look at them. Guess thats all part of it huh?

Yes thats correct what you asked about the MMS to SD card saved pics. Let me see how its easiest to understand. When the MMS is sent the camera is programed to send it in the quickest, less power used and simplest transmission format over the cell network. When the Acorn is in real bright locations it will send a grainier picture than a clearer one like some of my examples below.
The ones here are of 3 different pic sets
1. Grainy MMS bright light transmitted. OVGA (notice the text print in the picture bottom and pic size)
2. Better quality transmitted. VGA (white boxed text print in the pic bottom)
3. VGA 12mp pictures saved on SD card. ( very clear nice pictures)

I'm sure your wondering can I set it to just do a certain set? Sure, but the camera will still send it the easiest way possible. What I mean is, I have mine set on:
1. 12mp
2. VGA
3. 1 pic setting / 12 sec video (you may choose cam, cam & video )

I've included a link to the Acorn 5210MM 940NM users manual to better define the cams operation or functions. I've had several issues with my Acorn but, all have been just nit picky faults I corrected myself and never had to be sent in for repairs. I purchased my unit from a Chineese dealer for $235.00 so the U.S. dealer won't work on it under warrenty for free because of where I purchased it. Understandable.

In the initial pixs, 4th one down from the top, at first I thought you had a huge brown snake on the creek bank. then I saw the darker spot which then allowed me to identify the dog.   I know you have big timber rattlers down in Talbot County!  I know it has been warm around here for a few days , but not that warm , and not long enough. So right you are TJ. I've taken out a lot of them over the past 3 years or so. Always have to wear your snake boots and carry rat shot around here. We can't rule out those other rascals, cotton mouths! Any snake is spooky looking to me. That was a large black lab looking dog wandering through the creek in that picture you were talking abou :ck:t.

Same here with the snakes. Even though I hunt one county away in Meriwether, we have not seen rattle snakes. Copper Head, OH YEAH. I just about got nailed by one a couple years ago while reaching down in tall grass to remove a piece of metal roofing. Even Three feet is too close for me. It was about 3 1/2 feet in length but looked like 5 foot at the moment. Of course it was one of the few times I didn't have my pistol with rat shot with me. I jumped on the 4 wheeler and went to my truck which was only about 200 feet away and returned. You got it. It was gone.  I bought some Rocky snake boots, laced in the front , zip on the side.  A bit warm in the summer, but I can deal with that. I love the boots and the comfort of not having to worry about every step. I mostly where them where I hunt in Washington county while scouting and putting in the food plot. We have had two timber rattlers and one diamond back down there. I think the largest timberrattler was 59 inches and had just eaten a squirrel getting ready to hybernate I think.    I will dream snakes tonight.  Crap.     TJ

Holy moly, that was way to close for comfort. Those copperheads are some pretty deadly snakes! I always wear my Irish setter snake boots year round which are warm too. They just zip on the inside and no laces. I saw a guy down in South Georgia on the plantations where my wife is from wearing leather riding boots that were up to his knees. They looked lighter and cooler than the ones I'm wearing.

Strange, but after I did the posting, there was something on the news or maybe it was the internet, I cant remember, but a guy was bit by a small copperhead and he died. The report was saying that it is rare to dye from a copperhead bite, unless there is some other health issue or maybe older in age. The victim in this report was in his late 20's or early 30's and was used to handling snakes all his life. They did not know why he died but he died a few hours after the bite. I would still go to the hospital. I know where I hunt in Meriwether, we have ALOT of black widow spiders. So I read up on that. Basically, they said the same thing. Death is not common, but you should seek medical attention just in case. The widow bite impacts elderly and those who are very muscular more often than others. I think they said the widow bite was a nuerotoxin. Again always the disclaimer of seek medical attention.
I discovered I had my snake boots laced too tightly. After I loosened the laces, the boots now zip easier and are a bit cooler. Having the lace to adjust the comfort is nice, then the zip makes for easy on and off. TJ
